Cape Town lies in the Fynbos biome and forms part of the Cape Floral Kingdom. There are 6 floral kingdoms globaly and the Cape Floral Kingdom is the smallest and the most diverse per unit of area.

The diversity of fynbos plants is extremely high, with over 9000 species of plants occurring in the biome of which 6200 are endemic, i.e. growing nowhere else in the world.

Table Mountain supports 2200 species, more than the entire United Kingdom. Although the Fynbos only comprises 6% of the area of southern Africa, it has half the total number of plant species on the subcontinent – and has almost 1 in 5 of all African plant species so far described.

Customer Reviews

What an exhilarating day! When I first learned that the Table Mountain cable way was closed for annual maintenance while we were in Cape Town, I was crushed, but I ultimately found another "meant-to-be" moment instead. We really wanted to abseil, and the only way we could partake in this adventure was to hike up the mountain, so we went for it. At the end of the hike, I felt truly accomplished, and the abseil was an absolute thrill. I participated with my husband and 12 year old son, and we all throughly enjoyed the day. The entire staff was fantastic from when I made the reservation until we completed the hike down the mountain. I would recommend this to anyone looking for an adventure...and do yourself a favor - hike up the mountain! - Amy Jurgensen

Great experience, friendly and helpful guides. Photos of abseil were fairly poor quality and unable to clearly see face which is a shame. Other than that, faultless. - Pat Whaley

There was a little confusion with my reservation in the morning, but when it was sorted out we had great fun. The guide was very informative during the hike and we had a safe abseil! Thanks for the attention specially with my son!!! - Michaela Meier

Our experience with Abseil Africa on Hike and Abseil Table Mountain was nothing but pleasant and enjoyable. We had initially booked the wrong date, having not arrived in Cape Town, Abseil Africa was accommodating to amend our hiking date. Our guide, Prevail was wonderful and knowledgable. He walked at our pace and constantly encouraged us as we went along. He shared with us on the surroundings of Table Mountain, pointed to us Signal Hill and Lion Head Rock. He described to us the formation of Table Mountain, the flora and fauna of the mountain, and the animals that lived there. When it was finally our time to abseil, he also helped take a video of us, documenting our descend (which we look back and laugh). We had a memorable time with Abseil Africa and would highly recommend our friends back home heading to Cape Town for their next adventure. - Zena Quek

My friend and I went May 2017 on the Table Mountain Summit Walk and Abseil and we LOVED every second of it! The climb up Platteklip Gorge was challenging and beautiful! We hit a bit of a bad streak with Weather that morning so the higher we got we were in cloud cover but we could see the views for most of the climb. The Abseil was amazing! What an incredible adrenaline rush especially when you get to the surprise over the lip of the rock wall when you are dangling extremely high by only rope! Prevale was our guide and my abseil instructor as well and he was so so awesome! Loved learning about Table Mountain from him and he was very accommodating and just was very enjoyable to chat with as well. I definitely recommend the climb and abseil with Abseil Africa you wont regret the experience! - Jonathan Brickman
